Description
Nortonbury is a possible hall house that dates back to the 16th century and has been extended and divided over time. It features a timber frame that is underbuilt in whitewashed brick, with additional whitewashed brick infill above the exposed frame. The building has a steeply pitched hipped roof at the center, with end gablets and lower pitches over the end extensions. The original house consists of three framed bays in the center and is one storey high with attics. There is a square corbelled stack to the right of the center. The outer bays on the first floor have arched bracing, and there are larger three-light leaded outer casement dormers on the old range, along with a smaller two-light leaded window in the center. The ground floor features three windows in the center. The left-hand range is from the 19th century, with a half dormer and two ground floor windows. There is a door to the left under an open gable for No. 37. The right-hand extension has a half dormer and a ridge stack at the end, with a half-glazed door below in a gabled brick porch for No. 39.
