Description
The Horse and Groom Public House is a building that dates from the 17th century at the rear left, with 19th-century extensions to the right and front, and a rebuilding in the 20th century. The rear is timber framed and clad in whitewashed render, while the extensions are made of rendered brick and weatherboard cladding on the rear right-hand return front. The old plain tiled roof is present on the left, with parallel range roofs on the right. The original house consists of three bays and now has extensions to the right, forming an L-shaped plan. There is a small ridge stack to the centre left and a valley stack to the right. The building has two storeys with a parapet on the left side.
On the first floor to the left, there are three 19th-century 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows, with the ground floor projecting below to align with the right-hand extension. The ground floor features four cambered-head plate glass sashes and a part-glazed door under a similar head, with railings above that have fleur-de-lys finials on the standards and intersecting tracery. The right gable end has two first-floor and two ground-floor sash windows under rendered and keystoned heads. On the right-hand return front, there is one window on the first floor left and two fixed windows below. The weatherboarded range to the right includes a floored stable or store. Inside, the spine beams are exposed in the first-floor rooms of the rear range.
