Description

A manor house, dating from the 18th century and substantially rebuilt in 1868 for the Lovelace Estate. The house is constructed of red brick in a rat-trap bond, with knapped flint to the left and right gables. It has low-pitched hipped slate roofs. The house is two storeys high, featuring decorative stacks of terracotta panels on the left gable end, a brick stack in the centre, and ribbed ridge stacks to the rear left, right of centre, and to the right end. An oval panel is in the left gable, and there's an arched brick niche with a roll moulded surround to the right hand gable. A diamond-shaped date plaque sits on the central chimney breast. The house has projecting gabled end bays and a projecting chimney bay to the right of centre. It features a terracotta and brick decorative panel band above the ground floor to the left and centre, a plat band above the ground floor to the right, and alternating brick dentil bands to the eaves and around the right hand gable. The windows have Neo-Norman style surrounds with deep, ribbed brick and three-step, roll moulded edges. Casement windows are present with stepped lights to the window in the left gable. There is one window to each floor on the gabled bays and to the bays either side of the entrance. A first floor window on the chimney breast is set within an arched surround that breaks through the eaves. The ground floor of the chimney bay has a four-step, roll moulded arched brick surround to the main door. A further door is located on the right hand return front. Flint and brick wings extend at right angles to the rear.
