Description
The wall and garden grotto to the Duke of Wellington Public House was built in 1861 by the Lovelace Estate. It features flint rubble with brick dressings and decorative elements. The wall is approximately 2½ feet high and curves around to the grotto at the left end. There is an arcaded band at the front of the wall, which is topped with dentilled and D-section coping. The grotto, located at the rear left, is half octagonal with four angled faces, a flat entrance face, and a slate roof. Narrow brick-edged breathers are present on the angled sides, and there is a brick dentil band of alternating billet type at the eaves. The arched entrance is made of rubbed and glazed brick with a roll-moulded surround. This structure is included for its group value.
