Description

No. 8, Churchfields Avenue is a house dating from 1926, designed by Westwood and Joseph Emberton for Mrs Anderson. The exterior is roughcast with a cedar shingled roof. It features a tall, projecting chimney to the front left. The building has varying heights; 1½ storeys to the left, one storey with an attic to the centre, and a two-storey, half-hipped return bay to the right. Bowed semi-dormers with attic windows are present either side of the chimney and centrally. Metal casement windows are used throughout, with three windows across the ground floor, one to the right and two to the left. A sun lounge entrance is incorporated into a catslide extension on the extreme left, featuring a central door within a circular glazed surround. A central, battered porch has a parapet dropped in the centre, flanked by concave, quadrant walls leading to the central entrance bay, and includes a panelled door. The house was extended to the left during the mid-20th century in a similar style. Internally, an oval hall features dado panelling and a panelled staircase with inbuilt balusters that rise around the door leading to a first-floor gallery. Original Art Deco light fittings remain.
