Description

This lamp post, located 30 yards southeast of the monument in Whiteley Village, dates from around 1912. It is made of cast iron and features a square, four-legged base with a diagonally framed basket top that supports a tapering standard with four legs. The lantern is adorned with a decorative finial and is mounted on a double scroll-work arm that curves in an S-shape. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for elderly residents and was designed in an octagonal layout by Frank Atkinson, utilizing prominent architects of the time.
