Description

This lamp post, located 30 yards southwest of the monument in Whiteley Village, dates from around 1912. It is made of cast iron and features a square, four-legged base with a diagonally framed basket top. The lamp post has a tapering standard and a lantern topped with a decorative finial, supported by a double scroll-work, S-curve arm. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteleys stores for elderly residents and was designed on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, utilizing prominent architects of the time.
