Description
Windy Knowe is a house that was originally three cottages, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled thatch roof, with late 18th century to 19th century brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a three-unit plan, is one storey high with an attic, and has a four-window range. A central 20th century porch has been added, and there are timber lintels over 20th century windows, two in blocked doorways, and a stair-light to the right. The building also has timber lintels over late 19th century half-dormer casements. There are 20th century flat-roofed extensions to the left and rear. Inside, the property features chamfered beams and winder stairs located at the rear of the left end and central stacks. Open fireplaces with plain and chamfered bressumers are present in the end walls, and there is an 18th century plank door with H-hinges to the left. The roof structure includes collar-trusses with butt purlins.
