Description
No. 63 New Street is a house dating from the 17th century, which was remodeled in the 19th century. It is constructed of rubblestone and features a gabled slate roof with a ridge stone stack. The building has three storeys and a two-window range, with a projection over the top of Distons Lane that forms an archway.
On the top floor, there are two sash windows, with the western one lacking glazing bars. The first and ground floors have large pane sash windows, with a 20-pane sash on the first floor and a 12-pane sash on the ground floor to the east of the central door. The room accessed through the archway also has a 12-pane sash window. The entrance features a 19th-century part glazed reeded panel door beneath a gabled porch supported by wooden columns. Above the door is a datestone that reads: 'Thomas Frayne Anno Domini 1635', and there is another datestone on the rear wall. Inside, the southwest room contains an early 17th-century fireplace with an obtuse angled head and chambered jambs that connects to the external chimney stack.
