Description

LYNEHAM SP22SE 7/164 Gatepier (east) approx. 330m S of Fairgreen Farmhouse

GV II

Gatepier. Late C17 or early C18. Limestone ashlar. Square section with moulded plinth and boldly projecting capping surmounted by swagged urn finial; scrolled pilaster with moulded capital on east and west faces. Looks very similar to the gatepiers to the north of Sarsden House (q.v.) shown in an engraving in Kennett's Parochial Antiquities (1695).
