Description
This is a group of three chest tombs located in the churchyard of St. Mary's, approximately 15 meters east of the north vestry. The group includes a matching pair of tombs dedicated to the Arnatt family of Lew, both made of limestone. These tombs feature moulded bases and cornice lids, shallow tops, simple pilasters, and moulded end panels. One tomb has inscriptions for Jonathan Arnatt from 1844 and Joseph Arnatt from 1834, while the other has inscriptions for Jonathan Arnatt from 1799 and Elizabeth Arnatt from 1779, adorned with carved floral trails and lead lettering. The tombs are surrounded by a low stone base from a former enclosure, although the railings are now missing. The third tomb is a late 18th-century structure with illegible inscriptions, also made of limestone ashlar, featuring a moulded cornice lid. The north side displays a winged cherub head above an inscription panel, with flanking panels that have carved foliage scrolls, and a later south panel that includes flanking guilloche ornament.
