Description
This description covers a pair of chest tombs located in the churchyard of St. Mary's, approximately 8 meters southeast of the chancel. The first tomb is dedicated to Bernard Green, who died in 1811. It is made of pinkish limestone ashlar and features a white marble inscription tablet on the north side. The tomb has a moulded base and a cornice lid, with square pilasters adorned with drapery drops in the recessed corners. Each end of the tomb has oval panels, while the main sides have square panels.
The second tomb is for Bernard Green Junior, who passed away in 1827. This tomb is constructed from ironstone ashlar and is designed in the Gothick style. It has a moulded base and a shallow sarcophagus lid, with corner pilasters and a frieze that includes trefoil-headed panels and quatrefoil paterae. The shaped inscription panels include one dedicated to Mary Green from 1880.
