Description
Church Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century. It features a timber frame with square and irregular framing, and brick infill. The thatched roof has a brick stack and a chalk block external stack on the right side. The house has a three-unit lobby entry plan and is one storey with an attic, presenting a three-window range. The front door is a 20th-century plank door. There are two mid to late 19th-century casements and two 3-light casements in the first-floor half dormers, while the other casements are from the 20th century. The roof is half-hipped, with a ridge and an external stack on the right.
Inside, there is a chamfered bressumer above the central fireplace, and chamfered beams and joists are present in the centre room. The left and right rooms have a mix of original and 20th-century replacement beams. There is a quarter turn staircase next to the front door and against the stack. A timber-framed partition with close studding is located next to the stack. The original partition between the centre and right rooms has been removed, but a morticed beam remains. The first floor was not inspected.
