Description

Ragnell Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse located in Buckland Carswell. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with limestone ashlar quoins and brick window and door dressings. The roof is covered in stone slates, and there are brick stacks. The house follows a central staircase plan and is two storeys high with a five-window front. A late 19th-century four-panelled door with two glazed panes sits under a segmental brick arch with a keystone. Matching arches feature above the late 19th-century two-pane sash windows. A brick plinth course and storey band in Flemish bond, with flared headers linking the sills of the first-floor windows, are also present. There are two gabled dormers. The roof is gabled, with gable end stacks. A contemporary outshut to the rear left has a late 19th-century sash and plank door. A late 19th-century one-storey and attic extension to the rear right obscures an original gabled dormer. The interior retains the original plan and a collar truss roof with butt purlins, but other features are from the late 19th and 20th centuries.
