Description

The White Cottage is a 17th-century cottage, largely encased in 18th-century fabric. It has painted brick walls and a thatched, hipped roof with brick ridge stacks on the left and right. The cottage is single-storey with an attic, and has a three-window front. There is a plank door to the left, and another plank door with a segmental brick arch to the right of centre. There are two-light wooden casements with segmental brick arches to the left of centre and to the centre, and a three-light wooden casement with leaded lights and a segmental brick arch to the right. Two swept dormers are visible; the one to the left has a three-light casement with leaded lights, and the one to the right has a two-light casement with leaded lights. The interior has not been inspected. The group value of the cottage lies in its representation of a vernacular building type and its historic significance.
