Description

Pidnell Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse, potentially incorporating an earlier structure. It is built of coursed rubble and squared rubble with ashlar dressings, arranged in an L-shape with a lower, rear wing. The roof is stone-tiled, featuring pierced bargeboards and eaves boards. The west front has a three-window range, with a projecting, gabled wing at the north end containing an additional window. It features stone mullioned two-light windows with hoodmoulds and diamond tracery, along with smaller sash windows. A projecting porch has a Tudor arched doorway, a hoodmould, and a coped gable with a finial. A date plaque is inscribed with “WB 1839”. Later 19th-century splayed bay windows are on each side, with plain tiled roofs and Gothic traceried heads to the window lights. The south end gable is similar to the west gable but contains a three-light ground floor window. The rear range is constructed of brick and stone, with one storey and an attic. A brick section includes a triple casement half-dormer and two paired casements under brick relieving arches to the ground floor. An east-end section has brick window and door surrounds, and a cambered-head ground floor opening.
