Description

The buildings at 1-7 Greys Road date to 1896 and were built as part of a road widening scheme by the local authority. They are constructed in a flamboyant Jacobean style, using red brick with stone dressings, and have a roof that is not visible. The buildings are three storeys high with attics, and feature four windows and two corner bays. Brick pilasters are located between the windows. The windows incorporate mullions, transoms, and elaborate tracery. The shop fronts are contemporary with the building and are distinguished by carved brackets above. The buildings occupy an important and prominent position at a road junction.

Nos 1-7 Greys Road are part of a group that includes Nos 43, 45, 47, 47A and 49 Greys Road, No 30 Dukes Street (The Queen’s Head), and Nos 2 and 4 Reading Road.
