Description
Duchess Close consists of two houses built in the 17th century, with an 18th-century main front that is positioned at right angles to the road. The houses are constructed of brick and feature a plain tile roof with brick stacks. They are two storeys high with an attic and have a six-window range.
On the front, there is a four-panel part-glazed door with a flat hood located to the left of the centre, and a six-panel part-glazed door with a flat hood to the right. The ground floor has casement windows, except for a 12-pane sash window in the centre. On the first floor, there are two 12-pane sashes to the left, a 6-pane window to the left of centre, a 12-pane sash in the centre, and a 2-light casement to the right of centre, along with a 3-light casement to the far right.
The left-hand return features irregular fenestration with 19th and 20th-century windows. There is a tile-hung cross-gable to the right adorned with bands of fish-scale and scalloped tiles, and a cross-gable to the left that displays false half-timbering and tiles at the apex. Timber-framing is visible at the rear of the houses. The interior has not been inspected.
