Description

Newnhamhill House is a building that was originally two cottages, likely constructed in the early 18th century, with a recasing completed in 1797, as indicated by dated bricks on the right return and rear. The exterior features unknapped flint with brick dressings and an old plain-tile roof supported by brick end stacks. The house is a single storey with a four-window range. There are plank doors located to the left and right of the center, and the windows are primarily 3-light casements, except for a 2-light casement to the right of the center. The roof includes four gabled dormers and a queen-post roof truss on the left return. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams with ogee end stops on the ground floor.

To the right, there is a cross-wing with timber framing and herringbone brick infill, featuring an old plain-tile half-hipped roof and a brick ridge stack. The fenestration is irregular, with diamond-pane leaded casements. The roof structure includes an arched collar-truss with wind bracing. Some of the interior features, such as the squire panelling, likely date back to the late 17th century. Notably, the cross-wing was originally the first floor and roof of The Bull Public House in Tottenham, which is believed to be from the mid-17th century, and it was re-erected at this location around 1936.
