Description

Culham Court is a mid-18th century vicarage, with the south front remodelled around 1816, and altered in the 20th century. It is situated on the south side of the Abingdon Road in Culham. The building is constructed of red brick in a header bond. The roof is not visible, and it has brick end stacks. The three-window south front has a curved serpentine design, forming three bays. A 20th-century glazed door is set within a painted wood surround at the centre. The ground and first floors have 12-pane unhorned curved sash windows with lost original glazing, set within cambered brick heads. A shaped stone band runs between the ground and first floors. The second floor has six-pane unhorned curved sash windows, the majority of which retain original glazing, also with cambered brick heads. A plain brick parapet tops the building, with plain stone coping at the roofline. The rear entrance front is of three storeys and three windows, with a six-panel door set within a 20th-century painted wood surround. The ground and first floors have 12-pane unhorned sash windows, while the second floor has six-pane unhorned sash windows. The interior features an early 19th century straight flight staircase from the ground to the first floor, with a baluster balustrade. It is believed the house was built around 1758 for Benjamin Kennicott, who served as Vicar of Culham from 1753 to 1783.
