Description
Flint House is a country house, now used as offices, built in 1913 by Ernest Newton for F.N. Garrard, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building features unknapped flint with stone dressings and a plain tile roof, along with brick stacks. It has an H-shaped plan and is designed in the Tudor style, comprising two storeys and an attic with a seven-window range. The central five-bay section is flanked by single-bay cross wings on either side.
A prominent two-storey porch is located at the center, featuring a round arched doorway with original half-glazed double doors. The windows exhibit irregular placement and include stone mullions, with hood moulds above the first-floor center windows and continuous hood moulds over the cross-wings. The right side of the building has three arches at the center, with cross windows on the left and right. The first floor includes a four-light mullioned window in the center and two-light mullioned windows on the sides, while the cross gable at the center features a three-light mullioned window flanked by lateral stacks.
At the rear, the facade is symmetrical, featuring a central two-storey angled bay. The ground floor has five-light mullion and transom windows, and the first floor has five-light mullioned windows. Inside, original fireplaces have survived, and there is an open well staircase with a wooden balustrade. A late 20th-century wing has been added to the left side of the house.
