Description

A column and vase located approximately 20 meters southwest of the Temple of Flora, likely dating from around 1771. The structure is made of limestone and terracotta. It features a plain circular column with a moulded base that supports an elaborate terracotta vase on a fluted stem topped with a moulded cover. The bowl of the vase is adorned with festoons and three rams-head handles, with an inscription on the front reading "IN HORTO/FUIT COR". This vase was probably part of the innovative flower garden designed in 1771 by Reverend William Mason, who authored "The English Flower Garden", for Lord Nuneham, later known as the 2nd Earl Harcourt. Nuneham Park is recognized in the HBMC County Register of Gardens at Grade 1.
