Description

This building comprises two houses, now numbered 22 and 23, and dates to the early to mid-17th century, with extensions and remodelling occurring in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with timber lintels and brick dressings, and has old plain-tile roofs with brick stacks. The house follows a two-unit lobby-entry plan, which has been extended. It has two storeys and a further storey with attics. The front façade, with five windows, includes a three-window, two-storey block featuring a central door and a window above, both aligned with a stack. To the right is a two-light leaded casement at ground floor and a three-light casement above. A bay to the left of centre and the lower left extension feature tall, segmental-arched ground-floor windows and gabled dormers, along with a further door. An extension to the right has a three-light casement and a stone-built gabled dormer. The half-hipped roof of the main block has a large brick central stack with side strips. The rear elevation features additional tall windows mirroring those on the front. Internally, the original part of the building contains open fireplaces around the central stack, and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The building was adapted for use as a school and schoolhouse, and was likely originally a farmhouse.
