Description
Saffron House and Saffron Cottage are a house and cottage, probably dating from the early 18th century, located in Ewelme. The house is constructed of red brick with grey brick headers laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with an old plain-tile roof and brick end and ridge stacks. It is two storeys high and has a five-window front. A 19th-century panelled and glazed door, with an overlight and flat hood, is centrally located. The ground floor windows are 12-pane unhorned sashes with segmental brick heads, except for a blind panel to the right of the centre. A flat brick band runs between the ground and first floors. The first floor has a four-light wood casement to the left, two-light wood casements to the centre and left of the centre, and 9-pane sashes to the right of the centre and right. A dentil brick cornice runs along the eaves. The interior has not been inspected. To the right of the house is a cottage, also probably dating from the early 18th century, built of red brick with grey brick headers in a Flemish bond pattern and an old plain-tile roof. It is two storeys high and has a two-window front, with segmental-headed two-light casements to all openings.
