Description

Rainbow Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century, later encased in brick and altered in the 20th century. It is located on the north side of Church Street, North Moreton. The house is of a three-unit lobby-entry plan. It is two storeys high with an attic, and has a three-window range set at an angle to the street. The exterior is painted brick with a half-hipped thatched roof and a brick ridge stack positioned to the left of centre. A 20th century door is set within a 20th century porch on the left side of the building. The windows are predominantly two-light wooden casements, with segmental brick heads to the ground floor except for a single-light casement on the right. A three-light wooden casement is located on the ground floor centre of the left return, and a two-light casement and a single-light casement are positioned on the first floor and in the attic, respectively. A winder staircase connects the ground floor to the attic. The roof structure includes a queen-post with wind braces. The ground floor features chamfered spine beams, and some timber framing with angle braces is visible to the rear of the first floor. A blocked wood mullion window is present on the first floor right.
