Description

The Manor House is a manor house, now a private residence, dating from the late 16th century. It was remodeled and refronted in 1866 for Sir Edward Repps Jodrell. The building is rendered with a gabled old tile roof, featuring a right end stack and mid-19th century rear lateral stacks. It has an L-plan layout with a rear right wing, stands two storeys tall with an attic, and has a four-window range. The entrance features a late 18th century six-panelled door with an overlight, set within a brick porch that has a datestone reading "ERP/1866". The windows are paired horned sashes.

The rear wing is also two storeys high and has a two-window range, showcasing two- and three-light stone-mullioned ovolo-moulded windows on the left side wall. Inside, the hall contains reset 17th century panelling, while the first floor features a late 16th century panelled room with a mid-19th century fireplace and a restored overmantle to the right, along with a central timber-framed partition. The attic includes an old plank door and a four-bay collar-truss roof. The rear wing boasts chamfered and stopped beams, a 17th century quarter-turn staircase with splat balusters, two bolection-moulded doors, a stop-chamfered door frame, and a four-bay queen-post roof with clasped purlins. The house is depicted on a map from 1598 and was described in 1684 as having a hall and parlour, with the best chamber, dining room, and closet located above them.
