Description
The Queen's College North Range, which includes the Hall and Chapel, was built between 1714 and 1719 by William Townesend. The Hall is located on the west side, while the Chapel is on the east, with a passageway between them leading to the North Quadrangle. The Hall was completed in 1715, and the Chapel was finished in 1719. The building was refaced in Bath stone in 1884, and the bell turret and cupola were rebuilt in Clipsham stone in 1911. The interior features decoration by Townesend, a painting from around 1716 by James Thornhill, and medieval glass from the old chapel that was rearranged by Joshua Price, who also added his own work between 1715 and 1717. Additional glass was created by Abraham van Linge in 1635. The screen and reredos were designed by Townesend, and there is a 17th-century lectern present.
