Description
The Governor's House, now a staff mess, is an asymmetrical Gothick villa built in 1848 by Benjamin Ferry. It features three storeys and a basement, with the entrance front displaying three storeys and one bay. To the right, there is a recessed entrance bay and a further recessed two-storey bay. The entrance is approached by steps leading to a timber porch with a slated roof, which has a carved shield above. The Tudor-arched panelled door includes three multifoil panels that bear shields. To the left of the entrance, there is a small three-light oriel window supported by a carved female head corbel. The building also has three and two pointed-light windows with hoodmoulds, and a cruciform arrow slit located at the second floor above the entrance. The crenellated parapet features machicolations to the left of the entrance. Inside, there is an open well staircase with open-string design, column newels, stick balusters, and pendants.
