Description
The Oxford Health Department, formerly known as Greyfriars, is a significant building located on Paradise Street. It features a main range from the late 17th century on the east side, with an early 18th-century block dating around 1700 to the west of the garden. There is also a modern extension further to the west that connects with a 17th-century house. The structure stands three storeys tall, constructed of stone and timber framing, and has notable early 18th-century doorways on the west side of the east range and in the north wall of the garden. The building includes various windows, some of which are sash windows with glazing bars, and is topped with tiled roofs.
Inside, the property boasts impressive panelling and a staircase, all of which are of high quality and should be preserved. For a drawing of the exterior from 1823 by J.C. Buckler, refer to Bodleian Library manuscript Don A.3.II, 103.
