Description
The University Printing House, also known as The Clarendon Press, is a Grade II* listed building located on Walton Street. It consists of two wings, the North and South, which are connected by a central monumental entranceway designed in the Corinthian order. The construction of the front and South wing began in 1826 and was completed in 1828, designed by Daniel Robertson. The North wing and West ranges were finished by 1830 under the direction of Edward Blore. The original structure is built on a Headington stone plinth with Bath stone facing and dressings, which were repaired in 1935. The central screen features five bays, while each wing has three bays and includes casement windows. Handborough stone was used for parts of the interior, and there have been alterations and additions in recent years.
