Description
The National Westminster Bank, located at 120 to 122 High Street, is a mid to late 19th-century building designed by Horace Francis in the Venetian Gothic style. It is constructed of yellow brick with stone dressings and features three storeys and an attic with a seven-bay frontage. The building has two-light windows with pointed heads set in moulded architraves. A notable Venetian doorway is adorned with Balmoral granite half-columns and a trefoil head, with three-light windows positioned above it. At the corner, there is an oriel turret topped with a conical roof. The building also has gabled dormers, one with a stepped gable, and a slate roof. A shorter front faces Alfred Street. Additionally, decorative wrought-iron railings encircle the northwest corner of the building. All the listed buildings on the south side of the street form a group.
