Description
Shipton Slade Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled concrete tile roof, with Welsh slates on the rear and brick stacks at the ends and ridge. The building has a four-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, displaying a symmetrical four-window range.
The front features a three-window range with an early 19th-century porch supported by columns and pilasters that have entasis, leading to a beaded six-panelled door with an overlight. There are mid-19th-century canted bay windows with glazing bar sashes, horned on the left side, and above these are keyed flat arches over early 19th-century six-pane sashes. To the right, there are similar arches over a sash window and a 20th-century door. The building also has gabled roof dormers.
At the rear, there is a mid-19th-century outshut and an 18th-century rear wing that is one storey high with an attic and a gabled stone slate roof. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have stone-flagged floors, an early 19th-century straight-flight staircase with stick balusters, and panelled doors set in moulded wood architraves.
