Description

Gates and piers located about 100 metres north-west of Bayham Abbey were built in 1870 for Marquess Camden by architect David Brandon. They feature rubble piers with ashlar dressings and wrought iron gates. There are two carriage gates, each with a low frieze, an enriched centre panel, and a cornice topped with a heavily scrolled overthrow. The gates are hung from piers that stand about eight feet tall, which have modillion cornices and heraldic animals as finials, specifically a lion and a gryphon.
