Description
The gate lodge, located about 100 metres north-west of Bayham Abbey, was built in 1870 for the Marquess Camden, designed by architect David Brandon. It is constructed from random coursed rubble and features an ornamentally tiled roof. The building is single storey and was originally L-shaped, with moulded bargeboarded gables on each arm of the L. It has an open arcaded timbered porch on a sandstone base in the re-entrant angle, which also has a similar gable. There is a stack at the end right, and each gable end includes a canted bay window along with a boarded door in the porch. The lodge has been extended to the right with a single storey addition made from the same materials, which includes two wooden casements.
