Description
This is a terrace of five houses at 6 to 14 York Road, built in 1847 by local stonemason Jabez Scholes. The houses are three storeys high with a basement, and are stuccoed with a slate roof. Each house has two sash windows with some original glazing bars. A wooden verandah extends across the first floor, except for number 8. The ground floors are rusticated, and each house has a round-headed doorcase. A notable feature is the front cellar under the pavement of each house, covered by massive pavement slabs that are contemporary with the terrace—an unusual and rare survival. Railings are present to the areas, entrance, and area steps. Numbers 2 to 14 form a cohesive group.
