Description

This well and housing, located about 25 metres north-east of the Church of All Saints, was built around 1861 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. It features a timber structure set on a sandstone base, topped with a shingled pyramidal roof that has a terracotta finial. The outer frame supports this roof, which backs onto the churchyard wall. Inside, there is a secondary braced frame that houses a wooden winding shaft, which is operated by an iron handle on the right. Below this mechanism are trap doors leading to the well shaft, secured with scrolled iron strap hinges.
