Description

Turkey House, likely dating to around 1850, is part of the home farmstead of Somerhill, now within the Hadlow Estate. It was designed as part of a Victorian farmstead with buildings styled to complement a Vernacular Revival house, creating a picturesque and functional layout. The turkey house is situated approximately 25 metres northeast of Park Farmhouse, oriented with its roof running east to west. The rear elevation is visible from the farm lane, which leads past the farmstead to the estate laundry.

The building is single-storied and symmetrical, with a four-window south front featuring left and right gabled projections. A central, hipped roof ventilator with a finial sits atop the roof. The gables are timber-framed with curved braces and pendants at the apex. The front has three original plank and cover strip doors: one central door, and one in each gable. There are four two-light timber casement windows, together with two gabled dormers with pendants. The rear elevation mirrors the front with matching dormers and framed gables to the crosswings. The interior has not been inspected.
