Description
York House, located at 71 and 73 High Street, is a building of historical significance. Number 71 dates from the early 19th century and features three storeys with a semi-basement, all stuccoed. It has a cornice and parapet, with three sashes that retain most of their glazing bars. There is a porch on the north side, supported by fluted columns and accessed by a flight of steps, with a railing in front. The doorcase includes a segmental fanlight. Number 73, added later in the 19th century to the right side, is two storeys high and also stuccoed. It has a moulded eaves cornice and three sashes without glazing bars, set within moulded architraves. The ground floor features blank arcading and later shop fronts. Numbers 65 to 73 form a cohesive group.
