Description
A row of cottages dating from the 17th century, altered in the 18th century, stands on Goodhurst Church Road. The ground floor is built of red and blue chequered brick, while the upper floor is tile hung. The roof is tiled, with a half-hipped design and stacks positioned at the rear, left end, mid-left, and centre-right. The rear wing at the centre has an oversailing hip-end. The windows are wooden casements with leaded lights; there are six on the first floor and seven on the ground floor, each with two to four lights. The front features four simple, recessed arched doorways with boarded doors. A blocked doorway is located centrally, in front of a stack. A catslide roof extends to the rear. Inside, a stack of worked stone forms inglenooks, and may originate from the old church tower, which was destroyed in 1637. The cottages were likely originally a lobby-entry house, later extended and converted into individual dwellings, a style imitated in the nearby cottages at Nos 1-2 (listed separately).
