Description
This is a pair of adjacent Kibble chest tombs located approximately 3 metres west of the tower of the Church of St Mary. They were created in memory of members of the Kibble family and are dated 1832 and 1838. Both tombs are made of white marble set on sandstone plinths and are identical in design. Each chest features reeded corner pilasters and has rectangular fielded panels with concave corners on all four sides. The tombs have flat lids with moulded edges, moulded bases, and two-step plinths that contain sockets for iron area railings. The northern chest tomb commemorates Thomas Kibble, who died in 1838, while the southern chest tomb is in memory of Caroline Kibble, who died in 1832, and her husband William, who died in 1866. Both tombs are inscribed on the north side in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering.
