Description
The Golding chest tomb, located approximately 2 metres north of the vestry of the Church of St Mary, is a chest tomb dated 1843 in memory of John Golding, although it may date from an earlier part of the 19th century. It is made of grey limestone and features clasping fluted pilasters. Each of the four sides has a rectangular panel with concave corners. The tomb has a flat lid with moulded edges, a moulded base, and a two-step plinth. The lid bears an inscription that is too weathered to be read, while the north side is inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, recording the death of John Golding in 1843. The other sides commemorate the deaths of additional family members.
