Description
This is a headstone for Hephzibah (who died in 1892) and Alfred Robert Pite (who died in 1911), located about 200 metres northeast of the cemetery chapel. The headstone is made of stone and features bronze plaques designed in the Art Nouveau style. It has a moulded base with battered moulded side pieces and a curved plain. Two bronze plaques are affixed to the headstone, adorned with palm frond decorations, and the inscriptions are presented in an Arts and Crafts/medievalised script. The top frieze includes bead moulding and is decorated with heart motifs, along with the inscription "In Loving Memory" carved into the stone. There are also inscriptions on the rear, indicating it is the family grave of Alfred R. Pite. The design is striking and unusual, constructed at least by Hayes and Son, monumental masons.
