Description

The Fountain is a drinking fountain built in 1909 by Alderman Grant in memory of his wife. It is constructed from granite, oak, and shingles. The base is made of grey granite and features a chamfered square plinth with two semi-circular red/brown granite bowls and a pump housing topped with a pyramidal roof and curved pediments over the bowls. Above this, there is a wooden canopy supported by four chamfered oak posts set diagonally, leading to a chamfered pyramidal roof covered with shingles and a late 20th century electric lantern. The entire structure is set on an octagonal stone step. An inscription on the side facing the road reads, “In memory of LBG 13 May 1905."
