Description
The Nayland Rock Hotel occupies a crescent-shaped block dating from circa 1850, situated on the seafront. The building is constructed of stock brick with a slate roof, featuring 23 dormers. It rises three storeys plus attic level, with a basement. The ground floor is rusticated. The façade incorporates 33 sash windows and one wide three-light bay window at one end. Windows on the first floor have cornices and brackets above. Moulded Italianate architraves are present on all windows. Portions at each end of the building feature composite pilasters. A cast iron balcony runs along part of the Royal Crescent. The Nayland Rock Hotel itself has a modern sun lounge built into its ground floor, while the adjacent Royal Crescent Hotel displays three three-light bays but is otherwise similar in design. The building is included on the list for its group value, reflecting its prominent seafront location.
