Description
Matsons is a house that dates from the 16th century and the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof, and features a timber-framed range at the rear that is also clad in red brick. The building has two storeys and a basement, characterized by a brick dentil cornice and a parapet, with stacks that project at the left end and at the rear left and right ends.
The front of the house has a regular arrangement of windows, including two tripartite sashes and a central sash on the first floor, all of which are topped with moulded pediments. On the ground floor, there is a French door to the left and a tripartite sash to the right, along with a central door made up of six raised and fielded panels, featuring a semi-circular traceried fanlight and an open pediment supported by pilasters. There is also a basement opening at the bottom left.
Inside, the rear range shows evidence of close-studded walls and a crown post roof. Additionally, there is a 16th-century brick fireplace and stack.
