Description

House. Likely dating from the 15th century or earlier, with significant alterations in the 17th century. The building is constructed of rendered brick, with a plain tiled roof. A rear wing represents a partial survival of a late Medieval house. The main range is two storeys with a basement and attic, set upon a plinth with a moulded string course and cornice. It has a hipped roof with three gabled dormers, double diagonal brick stacks at the left end, stacks to the rear right, and another at the right end. The front facade features two sets of three-light wooden casements with brick mullioned sidelights on each floor to the left of a two-storey crow-step gabled porch, which has a single wooden casement and moulded brick label. Further casements are located to the right of the porch, with a small cornice above the upper one. A panelled door is situated within the porch, accessed by three steps. The right return shows an earlier range, rendered with irregular window openings, and a two-storey porch featuring a chamfered round-headed arch and a plank and stud doorway. Internally, cellars remain, possibly dating from a 13th-century structure. A plastered ceiling is adorned with ribs, cherubs, and roses. A stone fireplace with an ornamented overmantel is also present. The building’s earlier structure includes stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
