Description

The brewhouse, malthouse, and hop stores are part of the Fremlins Brewery complex, dating to 1898. They are constructed of red brick with slate roofs. The left-hand section is three storeys high and has five windows. It features mainly cambered metal casements with pivoting central sections, though the top storey appears to be a later addition. Wooden lucarns (dormer windows) are present on the second and first floors, supported by large iron brackets. The central section is taller and has a pediment with a modillion cornice and lucarn, four giant round-headed arches, and circular iron ties. There are two cambered entrances on the ground floor. A wooden link block connects this section across the roadway to the Old Tun Room. The right-hand block is also dated 1898, with a pediment and modillion cornice, and features three round-headed arches to the front and four to the side, which were formerly open. Inside, the brewhouse contains a mash tun floor with cast iron pilasters and a scientific king post roof.
