Description
New York Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been converted into a house, built around 1790. It is likely designed by John Plaw in the American Colonial style. The structure is timber framed with painted brick infill and has a plain tiled roof. It features one storey and an attic with a garret above. A verandah wraps around three sides, consisting of five bays on the return sides and seven bays on the front, supported by octagonal posts and a shallow arcade. The roof is half-hipped and includes two shallow pedimented dormers along with a central stack. On the ground floor, there are two glazing bar sash windows with shutters, and a central door with six panels, framed by a modillion eaves cornice. This building was constructed as estate cottages for Belmont and is illustrated in Plaw's "Ferme Ornée" from 1795.
