Description

Farmhouse. Dating from the 16th century, it was re-clad in the 18th century and extended in the 19th century. The building is timber-framed and now faced with painted brick, with a plain tiled roof and a painted brick and slate roofed extension. The front of the house has two storeys, built on a plinth. A 19th-century wing extends to the left, with sash windows with glazing bars on each floor. A two-storey gabled porch has a half-glazed door and a wood casement window on the first floor. The original 16th-century part has a returned hip to the centre, and the 18th-century hipped wing is recessed with one wood casement window to the right. Stacks are located at the rear, centre and right on the front. The left return displays a hip and gablet roof, a central stack, three sash windows with glazing bars on each floor, a central oriel window on the first floor, and a central glazed door with an open pediment on fluted pilasters. A 19th-century wing is on the right. This is likely the original wing, possibly of Wealden type. Inside, there is evidence of a jettied front, possibly Wealden or a continuous jetty. There are curved braces and a coupled rafter roof, which is probably later.
