Description
The stables and outhouses located 10 yards north of Sharsted Court date from the 17th century, with parts built around 1711 and further additions made in the late 19th century. Constructed from red brick with a plain tile roof, the buildings also feature flint and timber-framed and plastered sections. This long range consists of several structures, with the north front reflecting its appearance around 1711.
The north front has two storeys set on a flint plinth, with pilaster strips at the corners framing the central bay. It features a stepped gable on the right, with two coped gable ends to the left and right, which are now part of a continuous range, and a half-hip on the left. There are stacks at the centre and one projecting to the front right. The first floor has four wooden casement windows and one brick mullion window to the right, while the ground floor has three wooden casements and two brick mullioned windows to the right, all with segmental heads. The central ground floor window is in a blocked basket-arched doorway.
To the right, a wing was partially rebuilt in the 19th century, featuring one segment-headed wooden casement window on each floor, and it connects to Sharsted Court via a timber gallery and gateway. A projecting 19th-century flint wing is located to the left. The south front has two storeys with irregular fenestration, including carriage doors at both ends, three boarded doors to the left and right, and a central late 19th-century projecting timber-framed gable. This gable has two storeys and an attic, jettied at the first floor, with a six-light wooden mullioned window above and a five-light wooden mullioned oriel window on brackets at ground level.
